CCA Announces Denmark as New Executive Director

posted Jun 17, 2011 8:45 PM by Richard Murphy   [ updated Jun 17, 2011 8:56 PM ]

The Coastal Conservation Association’s Georgia Chapter announced June 13, 2011 that
local Tybee resident Michael Denmark will assume the state chapter’s Executive Director
position. The Coastal Conservation Association is a non-profit marine conservation
association comprised of tens of thousands of recreational anglers and coastal outdoor
enthusiasts whose mission is to advise and educate the public on the conservation of
marine resources.

John Duren, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Chapter, stated,
“ The state Board challenged the Executive Committee to reach out and find an individual
who has a passion for protecting the marine and coastal environment of Georgia, coupled
with a strong business background. After an exhaustive search of over 500 applicants, we
believe we have found the right individual who can lead the CCA to the next level, and that’s
Michael Denmark.”

Denmark, a Savannah native, recently moved to Tybee Island after 32 years of executive
corporate leadership with pharmaceutical giant, Novartis. Denmark spent the last 10 years
heading up the company’s western division of the Neuroscience Business Unit.

Denmark stated, “While I’ve had a very gratifying corporate experience, I am looking
forward to contributing to the protection and well being of one of Georgia’s most precious
resources… its coastal and marine environment. Having grown up in Savannah, I know
just how fragile these marine environments are, and I consider it a privilege to assist the
states’ incredible base of volunteers in keeping this environment preserved for future
generations. I am looking forward to working with these fantastic volunteers to take the
Georgia Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association to the next level.”

“I love the coastal waters of Georgia… I grew up on these waters . As a kid, I owned a
boat before I owned a car, and have fished, shrimped, crabbed and dove the waters from
Daufuskie to Sapelo. I’ve traveled and lived all over the world, and always come back to
the most special place on earth… the Georgia low country. After 32 years of corporate
relocations, it is wonderful to settle in back home, near family and friends”
